| Conceptualist or not? Conceptualism, even more than other -isms, was not a conscious movement but developed out of a number of artists exploring similar ideas. Hence with no clear manifesto, no obvious starting point, it is no simple matter to label an artist 'Conceptualist' or not. Nevertheless, in general terms, artists who are interested primarily in ways of approaching the creation of an artwork more than the work itself, can be considerd Conceptualist. And it is these artists who are included first and foremost on this page. NB: Many artists use Conceptualist approaches today who might not be strictly termed Conceptualist artists. Where appropriate, however, these artist are also included in the following list. |
